Synopsis

Wing Chun is a heroic story, a tribute to the ordinary people. Holding a passion for the screenworld, Dachun, a retired lighting designer, chose to work in a film archive. A dusty film archive brought him back to the unforgettable memories of filming Wing Chun, where his career in the film industry started...

Wing Chun boxing, Tai Chi, Eight Trigrams Plam, Baji boxing, and Mantis boxing, some fast and powerful, some resilient and dexterous, in the thrilling martial arts world, competition of top-notch masters are filled with excitement and strength. Likewise, in the filmmaking world, light and shadow are also like swords and fists, shaping the image of different heroes and bringing people’s dreams into reality.

While Master YIP steadily performs “Xiao Nian Tou” (the first and fundamental moves) of Wing Chun in the spotlight, the forceful ancestral teachings of “Support the weak, support benevolence” behind him seem to glow with glory. As the filmmakers’ camera zooms in and out, the crew members are also honoring their respect for kung fu with meticulous care and breathtaking bravery.

Master YIP is a hero. He hung up the sign board of “Wing Chun Hall” in the beginning and took it off in the end, just to break down barriers between different schools of martial arts and spread his lifelong knowledge and skills throughout the world. He sowed the seeds of Wing Chun in a time of changes, and enabled these seeds to grow into a towering tree.

The ordinary people are also heroes, like those filmmakers, and all those in pursuit of their dreams. Like branches and leaves of that towering tree, each one is trying their best to stretch out to the light, to shoulder their bit of responsibility, and to contribute to the growth of the great tree of kung fu.
