Pang Kapang/Conductor 

Pang Kapang (Artistic Director and Chief Conductor) is a National First-class Conductor, receiver of the special government allowance of the State Council, Member of the 13th & 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and a Board Member of the 76th Jeunesses Musicales International Annual General Assembly. He is Artistic Director and Chief Conductor for China Broadcasting Chinese Orchestra, China Opera and Dance Theater, Macao Chinese Orchestra (2003-2016), Henan Symphony Orchestra, China Oriental Symphony Orchestra, and Oriental Chinese Orchestra (Wuhan). He serves as a regular guest conductor with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, the Mozart Symphony Orchestra (Salzburg, Austria), the Graz Symphony Orchestra of Austria, the Busan National Orchestra (South Korea), and the Czech National Symphony Orchestra. Since June 2017, he has been the Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of Suzhou Chinese Orchestra.

Mr. Pang graduated with a Master’s degree from the Conducting Department of Central Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of renowned conductors Xia Feiyun, Xu Xin, and Zheng Xiaoying. He was the only Asian award-winning conductor at the 35th Kirill Kondrashin International Conductor’s Masterclass. Mr. Pang completed the International Conductors’ Masterclass (Kyiv, Ukraine) with first place. He received the honor of the Special Conductor’s Prize of China Golden Record in addition to being selected into China’s Four Batches of Talents and Top Ten Outstanding Youth. Beginning from 2000, Maestro Pang had conducted world-renowned symphony orchestras at the Wiener Musikverein for 13 consecutive years, creating a huge sensation. Kurier, an Austrian newspaper, described him as “having the styles of Japanese maestro Seiji Ozawa and Italian maestro Riccardo Muti combined.” Cinko Welch, Austria's most authoritative music critic, commended him for his “vibrancy, passion, quick and graceful hand movements with a unique style.”

In 2013, Mr. Pang pursued further studies of European operas at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, an institution known for training world-class conductors. Professor Rheintenau, his tutor, made the comment that “Mr. Pang is gifted with an extraordinary talent, a high degree of sensitivity and exquisite musicality, which help his conducting art approach near perfection.” In 2021, he received the Austrian Musical Theater Prize in the category of “International Music and Cultural Engagement.”

Zhu Changyao/Erhu

Zhu Changyao (Artistic Instructor), a National First-class Performer, renowned erhu soloist and composer, Vice President of the Chinese Bow-String Instrumentalist Society, Vice President of the Huqin Professional Committee of the China Nationalities Orchestra Society, Honorary President of Jiangsu Musicians Association, Director for the Art Advisory Committee of Jiangsu Performing Arts Group, as well as visiting professor of many colleges including China Conservatory of Music. He received the special government allowance of the State Council in 1991 and Zijin Cultural Medal in 2015. Mr. Zhu has given performances in Europe, America, Southeast Asia, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao, receiving high praise from audiences both at home and abroad. His performance is compared to “mellow wine, full-bodied but not overflowing” while “every stroke of his bow tells the story of human life”. He is regarded as a “world-class string musician” and “national treasure”. He serves as the Artistic Instructor of Suzhou Chinese Orchestra since June 2017.

Wang Fang/Kunqu Opera Performer

Wang Fang (Guest), a renowned performing artist of Kunqu Opera and Suzhou Opera and a national first-class performer. She is a recipient of the 12th and 22nd China Drama Plum Blossom Award, the 12th Wenhua Performance Award, the 24th Shanghai Magnolia Drama Performance Leading Role Award, and the Promotion of Kunqu Art Award issued by UNESCO. She has toured the United States, Belgium, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Finland, Austria, Canada, Russia, Latvia, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and other countries and regions, winning great acclaim from the media and audiences at home and abroad.

Suzhou Chinese Orchestra (SUCO)

Suzhou Chinese Orchestra (SUCO), a wholly owned subsidiary of Suzhou Cultural Investment and Development Group Co. Ltd, is a municipal professional orchestra in the city of Suzhou with Maestro Pang Kapang as Artistic Director and Chief Conductor, renowned erhu soloist and composer Zhu Changyao as Artistic Instructor. The orchestra has engaged renowned composers Zhao Jiping, Liu Xijin and Gu Guanren and Chinese music promoter Wang Shuwei as Artistic Advisors. SUCO is an orchestra with over 90 musicians, consisting of well-known performers from home and abroad, and outstanding talented graduates from the top ten music academies including the Central Conservatory of Music and Shanghai Conservatory of Music.

Since its establishment, the orchestra has received awards including “Advanced Group of National Cultural Tourism System”, “National Top Ten Chinese Orchestras”, “Austrian Musical Theater Award for International Symphony Orchestra”, “Outstanding Chinese Orchestra” in Chinese Traditional Instrumental Music Performances organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, “National and Provincial Art Foundation Projects”, “Jiangsu Wenhua Award”, “Key Investment Projects Support Program of Jiangsu Province for Stage Art Premium Creations”, and “Jiangsu Civilized Unit”. The orchestra has commissioned renowned composers to compose original works, of which seven were selected into “Symphony of the Era”, a support program for the music composition by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. A number of outstanding performers won “China Golden Bell Music Award” and other honors.

SUCO has successively held a series of large- and medium-scale concerts in Beijing, Shanghai and other cities in China as well as 32 cities in 16 foreign countries, receiving wide approbation and acclaim from audiences both at home and abroad. Officials of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, China Federation of Literature and Art Circles and China Musicians Association, renowned experts and scholars nationwide, as well as numerous mainstream media outlets including Xinhua News Agency, People’s Daily, CCTV, Russian State TV all praised the orchestra for its perfect merging of Chinese music with international expressions showcasing advanced artistic concepts and superb techniques and skills, calling it a “national-level team of young artists” with a high starting platform, high standards and high capabilities.
