项目梗概 Synopsis

本次演出旨在将光明生态本底、开放空间、人文节点等优势资源“串珠成链”,通过爵士歌手、爵士乐队、爵士舞蹈等形式于光明文化艺术中心进行户外公演及现场直播,对外展现光明优美的自然资源,传递光明精神。这场演出将为观众呈现一个精心打造的建筑空间,通过音乐的韵律和旋律,将光明的美景和人文氛围融入其中。在丰富光明区市民的文化生活的同时,为光明区加快打造“世界一流科学城和深圳北部中心”助力。

The music festival aims to weave together the unique ecological backdrop, open spaces, and cultural heritage of Guangming into a cohesive showcase. Set against the stunning Guangming Cultural and Art Center, the event will feature live outdoor performances by jazz vocalists, bands, and dancers, all streamed live to audiences beyond Guangming. The event will not only highlight the natural beauty of Guangming but also embody the spirit of the district. It will merge the rhythm and melodies of jazz with the scenic and cultural charms of Guangming at an architectural gem. This event promises to enrich the cultural life of Guangming’s residents while contributing to the district’s goal of becoming a world-class science city and the northern center of Shenzhen.

Jess Meider Jazz Standard Quartet

The Jess Meider Jazz Standard Quartet consists of top-tier musicians active both in China and beyond, including American vocalist Jess Meider, French pianist Pierre Pradat, and American guitarist Doug Martin.

Jess Meider is celebrated as one of China’s finest jazz singers, with a career spanning performances on various stages, music festivals, and major events across the country. She has shared the stage with singer Gong Linna, performed as a guest at Quincy Jones’ live events, and performed for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Jess has toured nationwide multiple times as part of her performances at the Midi Music Festival. In 2010, she and her band created the widely popular theme song for the blockbuster film What Women Want, starring Andy Lau. She later sang the end theme for Cui Jian’s 2014 film The Blue Bone and has created music for many international brand commercials.

Toshiki Soejima Trio

Guitarist Toshiki Soejima started his artistic career with the release of his EP Life on March 16, 2021. Known as the New-Soul Guitarist, Soejima focuses on instrumental sounds, showcasing his musical identity through evocative compositions and a distinctive guitar tone. He continues to release popular works including Duet, a conversational recording with Kyohei Aruga, and the cover album Kimama Session, which features intimate home recordings with various musicians. Both have received praise on music streaming platforms. Soejima’s live performances, including Feel Like Makin' Love, have garnered over 20 million views on YouTube, which has established a reputation for captivating live shows.

The JPLAN Messengers

Yang Ming is one of the most talented and iconic modern music composers, jazz composers, and jazz trombonists of the young generation in China. With degrees in jazz trombone and world music education from Royal Conservatoire The Hague, and a degree in composition from the Manhattan School of Music, Yang is a guest professor at the Central Conservatory of Music. He also serves as the artistic director of the jazz label JPLAN, and is the founder and chief planner of F.O.S Jazz Union, JPLAN PrO, and JPLANYouth, as well as the conductor of the Blue Note Beijing jazz orchestra. Yang’s music spans a wide range of genres, from classical to pop, Reggae to Funk, and especially Cuban Latin music. He started Sabro-Son and has been active in the Netherlands and the Aruba Islands. Yang joined China's only homegrown Latin jazz band, LOSAmigos. He also recorded two albums with the renowned Dutch reggae band SawedOff: Wait and The First Time.

Kenny Garrett Jazz Quintet

Kenny Garrett is the first musician to perform on the Blue Note China stage. As the quintet's key member and saxophonist, Garrett has spent over 40 years in the world of jazz and has reached the pinnacle of the field with stunning alto saxophone performances.

He has received an accolade of honors, including a Grammy Award for Best Jazz Instrumental Album, five Grammy nominations, and eight "Best Alto Saxophonist" and "Best Jazz Album" titles from Downbeat magazine. Garrett was also a former member of Miles Davis' touring band. The other members of the quintet are also among the top artists in today’s jazz scene. Whether it is Bebop, Swing, Straight-Ahead, Funk, Fusion, World Music, Classical, or the occasional Smooth Jazz, Kenny Garrett masterfully navigates all styles, ensuring that even avant-garde jazz fans are captivated by his improvisational solos.

Theorem of Joy

Theorem of Joy is a French jazz ensemble that blends diverse musical influences from France, one that brings together five professionally trained and experienced jazz musicians. The band members met at the renowned Didier Lockwood Jazz School in France. Their shared passion for music and pursuit of musical diversity have made them standouts among the younger generation in the French jazz scene.

Theorem of Joy offers a mesmerizing blend of diverse jazz, infusing elements of North African music, post-rock's adventurous spirit, and the softness of pop music. Their music is mysterious, rich, and intoxicating, continually exploring the unknown and the subconscious, leading audiences on a journey of introspection and boundless exploration.

Art Roho, Lucy & Fyn Cait

Art Roho, an artistic collective from Copenhagen, is a music project initiated by Danish bassist Jakob Roland and drummer Henrik. They work with musicians from various genres to explore new possibilities. The collective brings together a group of talented artists, presenting a wide array of styles and sounds. Rooted in Danish tradition, the concept of Art Roho emphasizes collaboration between the rhythm section of the band and touring artists. Their positive and open approach sets them apart, redefining the boundaries of creative partnerships.

In 2024, Art Roho will collaborate with Chinese guzheng player Lucy and erhu/zhongruan player Cai Fan to present a fusion of traditional Chinese music, jazz standards, specially composed pieces for the ensemble, and contemporary pop hits from artists like Billie Eilish.

Magnet Jazz Band

Magnet Jazz Band is an open jazz group that explores the vast possibilities of sound through the power of jazz. Organized in the fall of 2015, Magnet has since hosted a variety of themed concerts, such as Jazz Meets Pop Music, a tribute to Art Blakey, and the large-scale charity concert The Power of Music to Life. In 2018, they released their debut album Homework, in collaboration with Xiami Music. Magnet brings together various styles of jazz, including Bebop, Cool, Modal, and Fusion, and seamlessly integrates them with traditional Chinese songs to create their unique style. Their music is not only filled with passion but also brims with intellect.

Liu Wenwen Jazz Quintet

Liu Wenwen is a contemporary Chinese suona player, a teacher of suona at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, a signed soloist with the Guangdong Ethnic Orchestra, and the first person in China to hold a Ph.D. in suona. As a post-90s artist, Liu is one of the most outstanding, young, and internationally influential suona players active in the global music scene today. She has been extensively covered by major Chinese media, including CCTV News, Xinhua News Agency, CCTV Documentaries, People’s Daily, Beijing Daily, and China Media Group Mobile. In 2017, composers Tan Dun and Guan Xia collaborated to create the suona and orchestral concerto Hundred Birds Pay Homage to the Phoenix for Liu, which she performed in over 30 concerts worldwide. In November 2019, Liu was the only soloist at the opening concert of the 8th St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum, celebrating the 70th anniversary of China-Russia diplomatic relations. There, she performed classic suona pieces with the St. Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra to great acclaim from the Russian audience. In early 2020, Liu was invited by the Mariinsky Theatre in Russia to perform a suona solo in collaboration with legendary conductor Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra.
