Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra (SZSO)
After 40 years of hard work and unremitting pursuit, Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra is recognized as one of the outstanding professional symphony orchestras in China and has become a beautiful business card for Shenzhen. National first-level performer and violinist Nie Bing is the current chairman of the orchestra artistic committee. The music director is the distinguished conductor Lin Daye. Yu Long is artistic advisor, German conductor Christian Ehwald is honorary music director, and famous musician Tan Dun is principal honorary conductor.
Alexander Rahbari/Conductor
Conductor and composer Alexander (Ali) Rahbari was born in Tehran - Iran. Early in his conducting career Rahbari was the recipient of several major awards. In 1977 he won the prestigious Gold Medal at the Concours International de Jeunes Chefs D’Orchestre (The International Contest of Young Conductors) in Besançon, France following a Silver Medal at the Geneva Conductor’s Competition. Noticed by the legendary Herbert von Karajan, Rahbari was invited by him to conduct the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2005, Maestro Rahbari was invited to Iran as the Permanent Conductor of Tehran Symphony Orchestra.
Niklas Eppinger/Cello
A native of Germany, cellist Niklas Eppinger received numerous national and international accolades. In 1998, he won the ARD International Music Competition in Munich, and in June 2001, he was awarded the first prize at the “Leonard Rose” International Violoncello Competition in Maryland, USA. Since then, he has established himself as one of the most successful cellists of his generation. Since the summer semester of 2006, Niklas Eppinger has held a professorship at the Würzburg University of Music.
Synopsis
Iranian-born conductor and composer Alexander Rahbari, who has been appointed by Valery Gergiev as a permenant guest conductor at the Mariinsky Theatre, will make his debut with the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra in a first collaboration featuring Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 in e minor, as well as with Niklas Eppinger, one of the most active German-born cellists on today's international stage, in a program featuring Dvořák's Cello Concerto in b minor.
